Sidney Memorial Stadium Artificial Turf Project

January 18, 2014

Tonight the Sidney Vespa Quarterback Club and the Artificial Turf Steering Committee is announcing that we will install artificial turf in Sidney Memorial Stadium this spring.  While the fund raising is still continuing, we have reached the point that we will sign a contract to immediately proceed with the project.  We would like to congratulate the administrations, faculty, staff and students of both Lehman Catholic High School and Sidney City Schools as well as the community of Sidney.  We would also like to give a sincere thanks to all of our personal and business donors to this project.

If you are interested in making a donation to the project, please feel free to email the club at or contact one of the following committee members; Devon Beer, Tom Burns, Barry Eilert, Tom Frantz, Mike Lochard, Tom Martin, David Riley, David Rose, Tony Schroeder, Jeramie Sollmann.

At the conclusion of the 2012 fall athletic season it became evident with the ultra-wet season that Sidney Memorial Stadium was in need of a new playing surface. Opened in 2004, Sidney Memorial Stadium is home to both Lehman Catholic and Sidney High football teams and is a great venue for players, fans and media. The Sidney Vespa Quarterback Club has created an artificial turf steering committee comprised of Vespa members, Lehman Catholic supporters and Sidney community advocates. This steering committee will spearhead the entire process, starting with field design options, community fundraising efforts and installation.

The benefits of installing an artificial turf playing surface in Sidney Memorial Stadium are many. Sidney Memorial Stadium, with the addition of artificial turf, will become a full year use facility for the entire community with the ability to host large corporate and community events. Marching band competitions, Little Cavs football, MayFest soccer tournament and Sidney Little League football are just some of the additional community uses of the stadium. Lastly, the ability to host both football and soccer playoff games will have a positive economic impact to the community, schools and booster groups.

It is our pleasure to present you with information on our efforts to facilitate the community support that will result in the installation of an artificial turf field for Sidney Memorial Stadium. We feel strongly about the need and benefits of this project. We've already made substantial progress toward our goal of $600,000 that includes a lead gift of $100,000.
